SHOW UPDATE
Preparations
for our special event on 26th April 2008 are progressing well. The judge’s
airfare and accommodation have been paid which has depleted the fund somewhat.
In
December, letters were sent via the VCA/ANKC to any person that had a Mastiff
registered in his/her name since January 1st 2000. In total, 231 letters were
sent out with details of the show and inviting Mastiff owners from all over
Australia to be part of the event. This has resulted in some enquiries from
interstate from owners that we did not know about and was the aim of the
exercise. Thanks to Tania Kirkland from the VCA who was most cooperative in
organising this mail out.
I
have also been busy contacting Mastiff clubs overseas to source donations. The
response has been overwhelming! The Mastiff Club of America posted my request on
its members’ internet group and individuals have sent donations of money which
is just fabulous.
Many
of the clubs have donated goods which will be used as auction of raffle items. I
hope to be able to send the raffle tickets to all members prior to the show.
Also, I am planning to send a list of the auction items to all members so that
even those who can’t attend can place a bid. These would be sent to a
nominated person who would bid on your behalf on the day.
Another
way that overseas Mastiff enthusiasts have contributed is by taking out adverts
in the catalogue. This is also a way for interstate members who may not be able
to attend to be involved. Please contact me for the advertising rates for
colour/black & white, full or half page.
It
is planned that the show will be held outdoors on the grassed area, so we are
trying to provide shelter for interstate exhibitors who are flying in and
therefore cannot bring their own shelters.
As
stated in the Schedule (opposite), an after show function will be catered for
and heavily subsidised by the Club, however, this may not be until 3pm so we
will all be starving. So, we are trying to arrange for another club to
coordinate a BBQ where you can purchase egg and bacon sandwiches, sausages and
drinks to keep everyone going.
The
show will be professionally videoed by Mastiff owners Simon and Jennifer
Willshire of Gammonwood P/L
Multimedia Production Company. Still photos will be taken by the professional
photographer Rob Russell and will be available for purchase. Pricing is
available from Rob.
Most of the sashes and trophies have been ordered and, as usual, we will
have a tremendous trophy table. Anne-Marie O’Grady has once again been busy
preparing prizes for the show.
Two new perpetual trophies will be presented this year - The Kalcavalier
Breeders Cup and one for the Best Sire and Progeny in memory of Aust. Ch.
Marstenmoor First Chapta. Fay Gunson, formerly Kalcavalier Kennels, will be
attending on the day for the inaugural presentation of the Breeders cup. Details
about the allocation of points will be available on the day of the show.
The Darkling Magic Mistress Memorial Cup presented to the Runner-Up Best
Exhibit in Show has been retired so a new perpetual trophy is now available to
any Club member who would like to donate.
An extensive range of Club goods will be available for purchase and order
on the day. This will include commemorative port and wine, as well as glassware
which is new to our goods for sale. If you know that you would like to purchase
items, it would be helpful if you could let me know in advance so that I can
order appropriate numbers.
On the day, assistance to ensure the smooth running of the event will be
provided by the Bernese Mountain Dog club (and then the MCOV helps at its show
in June!). We also hope to have our tea
So it is shaping up to be a huge event so please show your support by sponsoring a class or two and attending on the day.
